Ægishjálmur (Old Norwegian: helmet of fear/helm of terror) is an old magic symbol that induces fear in enemies and protects against negative powers. It is mentioned in ancient sagas, such as in the Völsunga saga, where the dragon Fafnir wears one between his eyes.
